Being a Momma

Being A Mom is the most important job you will ever do. A day’s work in the life of a mom cannot be measured by stacks of paper, trophies won or products sold. At the end of each day, you find that there are still dirty diapers to be changed, mouths to feed and floors to clean. However, in between all these tasks that seem, at times, to be mundane, there is an incredible sense of joy that accompanies motherhood. Join with us, as we take pride and pleasure in the simple smile of a child. From entertaining, to strictly applying discipline, we would like to walk with you through this journey, in hopes of offering some ideas, tips, hope... and maybe even a giggle or two.

Easy ribbon dancer

For our playgroup this last week we made these ribbon dancers... for lack of a better name. This is a great way to use any scraps of fabric you have lying around. For the handle I just used plastic tops to tubs and cut the middle out. That makes this absolutely FREE!! If you don't have any scrap fabric you can always cut up old t-shirts or pillow cases, etc. You can use curling ribbon if you don't have any fabric ribbon too. Even if you do have to go buy some material, you can usually find some clearance fabric for a buck or two a yard, and really, you only need about a quarter of a yard of fabric.

When we made these we talked about textures since there are lots of different textures in these different fabrics; we had fleece (soft), flannel, tool (rough), ribbon (smooth), yarn, sequenced material (bumpy), and regular cotton fabric. You can't really see the sequenced material in there, but it does add a bit of sparkle when the kids wave them around. All the kids loved dancing with their ribbon dancer. You can let them do free style or follow your lead; wave them high, wave them in circles, twirl around with them, wave them up and down, low to the ground, fast, slow... you get the idea.

You can also use this is a counting lesson...count how many ribbons have tied to your handle. Or as a color lesson and use solid colored fabric. You could do an all blue one, a green one, a red one, etc. Anyways, this was a fun, FREE, activity.

Those are adorable. We are doing a theme letter each day until we go through the alphabet and Friday is going to be D. So we are going to use these for dancing. Thanks for the great idea! My girls are going to go crazy.
